Photographic Artist, Sarah Conners-Hazel
"Schazel"
Admirers have described Sarah's art,
including her emerging study of Sandpoint's historic architecture,
as having an Impressionistic style. Her passion for
photography united with an interest in impressionistic painting
developed into the hand-manipulated photographic art that has become
her trademark. Although the final image may look similar to a
painting, it is in fact a photograph. Sarah exposes her
original 35mm transparencies onto Polaroid SX-70 film and hand
manipulates the film's dyes and emulsion using a variety of tools
throughout the development process. The subject matter
of her art is the historic buildings, local merchants, city
scenes, vintage cars, country life, as well as other observations of
Sandpoint and the surrounding areas.
Artist
Statement: Many
people have asked me, what do you take pictures of? The answer
is: My photographs vary in subject matter, theme, and
context. Generally, I look at the world through a lens, with
or without a camera. I am always looking for the unusual, the
minuscule, and the beauty in details, something special and unique,
the abandoned, and what I think may go unnoticed. Waiting is
also part of it, because much of the time that something special
comes into view when I stop seeking it. I look forward to
every new "image" day because I am relentlessly seeing something new
about photography and about existence. Photography will
continually be a lifelong enlightening experience for me.
